A mid- 20th century Thai unmarked silver bowl, Chiang Mai circa 1950
Of compressed circular form. The surface with embossed decoration of figural scenes including a warrior kneeling before a woman upon a bed with lion paw feet, another preparing to band a Buddhist temple drum (taphon), each within stepped architraves against a matted ground, with scrolling foliage in between. The decoration all above a punchwork ‘wallpaper’ with a band of stylised betel leaves below, and simulated rope twist above. The underside with an engraved temple scene.
