Ming Dynasty, six character Wanli mark and possibly of the period.

The body and cover painted with sinuous dragons chasing pearls among blooming twigs, the cover surmounted with a globular knop, interior divided into seven compartments, each with sides painted with insects and blossoms, the base with a mark within a double band, 25cm diameter. (2)

Provenance: an English private collection, Dorset, acquired in the 1930s and thence by descent, by repute.
