A late 19th century Anglo – Indian unmarked silver claret jug or ewer, Cutch circa 1870

Raj period. The body of inverted ovoid form upon a domed circular foot. The body with deep chased decoration of foliate scrolls and rosettes all above a band of acanthus leaves, the front with a vacant heart shaped cartouche. The chased C scroll handle with three shaped sections, leading to a domed lid of conforming shape surmounted by a finial of a caparisoned elephant statant. The foot with similar decoration of foliate scrolls and rosettes.
