λ AN INDIAN IVORY MINIATURE PORTRAIT OF A COURTLY LADY
Possibly Delhi, Northern India, late 19th - early 20th century

Opaque pigments and pencil heightened with gold on ivory, the oval ivory medallion portraying a Mughal courtly lady, possibly an idealised tronie of Jodha Akbar or Nur Jahan, wrapped in an embroidered red shawl, heavily bejewelled with several strings of pearls used for head and ear ornaments, her diaphanous vest finely embroidered in gold and enhancing her fair complexion, mounted, glazed and framed, 5cm x 4cm, 11cm x 8.3cm including the frame.
