A BRONZE HEAD OF AN INDIAN MAIDEN
Possibly West Bengal, Eastern India, 20th century
Designed as a stylised head of an Indian maiden with bulging fish eyes, a pointy nose, wide arched eyebrows, a diamond-shaped bindi on her forehead, and closed red-stained lips, her ears and nose pierced and once probably filled with applied jewellery, the style reminiscent of Kalighat paintings and the iconic models of Jamini Roy, 11.4cm high.
