TWO STANDING PORTRAITS OF INDIAN MAIDENS
Possibly Bundi, Rajasthan, North-Western India, late 19th - early 20th century

Opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper, comprising a standing portrait of an Indian maiden holding a devotional offering tray with fresh flowers, set within black rules and bright red borders, mounted in a plexiglass frame, the painting 19.5cm x 14.5cm; and another similar with a green-clad maiden being consoled by her duenna, set within white rules and bright red borders, mounted in a plexiglass frame, the painting 18cm x 11cm.

Both paintings repeat the same inscription in pencil at the back: "19th - 20th century - Bought in 1998 in Rajesthan by J. Bibby - Valued by Phillips and Christie's £150 - 250".
