A late Victorian sterling silver hot milk/water jug, London 1886 by James Garrard
Of tapering cylindrical form, decorated in the Japanese aesthetic style, engraved with bamboo, bullrushes and birds, the loop handle with ivory insulators. The front engraved with dual crests of a pelican in her piety above the motto virescit vulnere virtus and a griffin salient above the motto impero. Fully marked to the shoulder and stmaped underneath R&S Garrard, Panton St London.

For Horatio Granville Murray-Stewart (1834-1904), Esquire of Broughton & Cally, Gatehouse He was the son of Horatio Stewart (1806-1835) and Sophia Stewart (d. 1888). He was the great-grandson of John Stewart, 7th Earl of Galloway (1736-1806). He married on the on 9th September 1858, Anne Eliza Wingfield Digby (d.1919), daughter of Reverend John Digby Wingfield Digby (1799-1877) and Anne Eliza Smith (1803-1859). He died on 6 April 1904 at age 69, without issue. He was given the name of Horatio Granville Stewart at birth. On 7 May 1846 his name was legally changed to Horatio Granville Murray-Stewart of Broughton by Royal Licence. He twice contested Kirkcudbright. He held the office of High Sheriff of County Donegal in 1858. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) He lived at Cally and Rusko, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland. He lived at Killybegs, County Donegal, Ireland.
