Born in Iraq, Al-Abdali gained his BA in Fine Art at the Baghdad Academy in 1965. He subsequently moved to the UK to study graphic design, and graduated from Manchester Polytechnic in 1980. He taught at many institutions in Saudi Arabia, Baghdad, and from 1994 onwards at the University of Petra in Amman, Jordan. He was also awarded the Lorca Memorial Prize arranged by the Spanish Cultural Center in Amman.

An accomplished artist, he is a member of The International Association of Plastic Arts; The Association of Iraq Artists; The Association of Jordanian Plastic Arts and an honorary member at the Jordanian Human Rights Association. Al-Abdali has held many exhibitions both in and out of Iraq, including Dahran, Saudi Arabia; Amman, Jordan and Jakarta, Indonesia.

In his paintings, he is particularly concerned with light and shade reflecting his classical realist training. The current work is a typical example of the topics he covers, ranging from social and political to everyday life scenes.
