A bronze bust of Leslie Gilbert Illingworth, signed by the artist on verso, 350mm high x 490mm wide, 1961, with supporting newspaper material and photos.

*** Illingworth was a Welsh political cartoonist best known for his work for the Daily Mail and Punch. Upon being photographed with the bust at the RA, he commented: “I think it’s a wonderful likeness and it explains to me why my friends always cross the street when they see me coming…” - Daily Mail, 3 May, 1963.

Provenance: Commissioned by the current owner's father and Illingworth's agent (B. L. Kearley Ltd) in 1961. Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, 1963.
