A STONE NOMOLI FIGURE, SIERRA LEONE, with a stylised squat body, the figure is depicted in a crouching position with the arms meeting across the chest, with the large head tilted upwards, ovoid eyes and pursed lips, 17.1cm high.

Notes: The origin of these figures is largely uncertain but they have been associated with various ancient legends of Sierra Leone, some attribute them as being representations of disgraced angels banished to earth by the gods, another suggestion is that they represent ancestor chiefs and kings.
