The polychrome-painted dial illustrates a typical Judaica scene with a rabbi reading pages from holy scriptures, possibly the Torah. The illustration is charged with religious symbols of great significance to Jewish practitioners, including a menorah (seven-branched candelabrum); the blue Star of David; and the Tablets of the Law inscribed with the Ten Commandments and Mount Sinai in the background, linked to the Book of Exodus a pivotal part of the Hebrew Bible. In modern times, many of these symbols have often been associated with Israel and its national emblems.
