TWO EMBROIDERED ICONS AND A SMALL WOODEN TRAVEL ICON OF CHRISTIAN SAINTS
Greece, late 19th - 20th century

Comprising a small velvet panel embroidered with the icon of Saint Andrew (Aghios Andreas), standing in the centre and holding the Holy Gospels, the body made of a variety of metal threads, spangles, and chromo-lithographed cut-outs for the face and hands, mounted, glazed and framed, 25cm x 20.5cm including the frame; a similar panel embroidered with coloured silk threads, golden spangles and metal thread on a black linen background presenting the bust of Saint Nicholas (Aghios Nicolaos), mounted, glazed and framed, 18cm x 17cm including the frame; and a miniature wooden travel icon, designed as a rectangular box with a sliding lid, concealing on the interior the depiction of the early Christian Lebanese and Greek Saint and Martyr Barbara, mounted on a metal stand 9cm x 5.5cm excluding the stand.
