A CHINESE MANDARIN PALETTE PUNCH BOWL.

Qing Dynasty, 18th Century.

Painted in bright enamels and gilt with two large panels of figures of dignitaries relaxing with their retinue and pets on the banks of a river, two smaller panels depicting children at play in a similar bucolic setting and four small monochrome sepia landscape panels, each enclosed in gilt rocaille borders and reserved on an iron-red and gilt-decorated geometric ground, the interior with a blossom spray and a band of bats and clouds between diaper cells and gilt spearheads around the rim, 16.5cm H, 39cm diameter.
