AN OTTOMAN GILT-COPPER (TOMBAK) EWER
Ottoman Turkey, late 18th - 19th century

Of low pyriform shape, resting on a flat circular base, rising to an hourglass-shaped neck with a bulging ring in the middle and a flared circular rim, with a hinged domed lid with a vegetal finial resembling a pine cone, to each side an S-shaped handle and sinuous spout, the exterior fully gilt and engraved with hanging floral garlands enhanced with ring-punched patterning, a horizontal vegetal strand to the neck and a similar floral garland to the lid, 29.3cm high.
