A LARGE KHORASAN BRASS BASIN WITH KUFIC INSCRIPTIONS
Possibly North-Eastern Iran, 12th - 13th century
Of faceted rounded shape, resting on a flat base, rising to an everted fourteen-sided cusped rim, the centre engraved with a rosette medallion surrounded by a band of pseudo-Kufic calligraphy and interlacing roundels, the negative spaces filled with vegetal scrollwork, a band of knotwork and stylised sun rays on the outer border, the rim with a further band of calligraphy in naskh against vegetal meanders interrupted by cusped arches on the corners of the rim, 43cm diam.
