Japan Cartes de visite, late Edo period (1603 and 1867), c.1860s

ALBUM OF CARTES DE VISITE OF JAPAN, c.1860s, subjects include cultural scenes, portraits, comprising a group of Samurai, the Japanese diplomats, and ambassadors Kiogoku Notono and Matsudaira Iwamino, and the younger brother of the Shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu (1837-1913) while visiting Europe, photographers comprise Vernon Heath (1819-1895), André Adolphe Eugène Disderi (1819-1889), Caldesi, Blandford & Company (active 1841-1908). Cartes de visite (23), albumen prints, image size, approx. 95 x 60mm, card size, approx. 105 x 65mm, mounted on contemporary album, four loose cartes de visite, some examples hand coloured, with pencil annotations in mount, most examples with photographer's name typed in card verso.
