A pair of Louis XVI late 18th century French provincial silver candlesticks, Lille 1784 by Louis-François-Joseph Devaucenne (1752-1832, master 1778)

The based of domed circular form with a cavetto edge with a chased acanthus rim all below applied bead work. The domed section with embossed acanthus leaves, the tapering columns with chased scaler work, repeated on the columns. Each with removable sconces with beaded rims. Each engraved to the bases with an ellipse within sun rays. Each marked underneath with town mark combination date and makers mark FLDV, the sconces marked the same with DV version of the maker’s mark. Additionally, later marked to bases and sconces for second standard (minimum 800) for Lyon 1819-38, départment 67. (2)
