A SMALL STANDING PORTRAIT OF A RAJA
Northern India, 20th century
Opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper, the vertical composition depicting a haloed Raja facing his left, wearing a courtly dress, heavily bejewelled with a tulwar (sword) and dhal (shield) to his far side, and holding a small jewelled sarpech (turban ornament), on a green ground with clouds and a dark blue sky to the top, the composition backed onto several later accounting wanli papers, 11.2cm x 18.2cm.
