Born in 1930 in Alexandria, Abdel-Aleem participated in many regional and international Biennales, including Venice, Norway and Bangladesh, winning numerous prizes. An internationally acclaimed artist, her works are found in important collections such as MoMA, Museum of Berlin, University of Southern California, Qatar Museum, Museum of Modern Art, Japan, Dalloul Art Foundation, Beirut and the Barjeel Foundation, Sharjah.
