Johannes Sveinsson Kjarval (1885-1972) Icelandic painter renowned for his unique style and contributions to Icelandic art. He is considered one of the pioneers of modern art in Iceland. He studied in Copenhagen and later in Paris, where he was exposed to various artistic movements and styles.

Kjarval's work reveals a deep connection to the Icelandic landscape and nature. He often depicted Icelandic landscapes, including mountains, fjords, and lava fields, in a way that captured the mystical and ethereal qualities of the country's natural beauty.
