FOUR ENGRAVED TINNED COPPER DRINKING BOWLS
Iran, late 18th - 19th century

Comprising a near pair of small drinking bowls, of typical shallow rounded shape, resting on a circular flat base, the interior and exterior heavily engraved, in the centre an animal roundel with a lion attacking a gazelle, to the cavetto oval cartouches filled with figural decoration of men and demons in Zand style, the exterior with wild animals and hunting scenes, the largest 8.5cm diam.; one bowl with similar decoration on a larger scale 14cm diam.; and the fourth bowl with faceted honey-comb pattern to the exterior, and lobed medallions of female portraits and cusped cartouches with nasta'liq inscriptions to the interior, 15cm diam.
