FOLLOWER OF OF WILLEM VAN DE VELDE II The English ship Resolution in a gale with another ship ahead, and a small fishing boat in the foreground  oil on paper laid down on canvas, unframed 15 1/4 x 22 1/4 in. (38.7 x 56.5 cm.) The two men-o'war are copied from The 'Resolution' in a Gale by Willem van de Velde II in the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich (BHC3582). The artist of the present lot added the small fishing boat to the left and rocks in the foreground, and chose a horizontal format.
