An enamel and hairwork cross pendant, circa 1810 The Latin cross, formed from oval and circular discs with glazed compartments containing hair, two with black enamel borders, the reverse engraved with names and dates, two glazed compartments deficient, length 8.2cm This lot relates to the Bligh family of County Meath, Ireland. John Bligh, Fourth Earl of Darnley (30th June 1767 – 17th March 1831) was an Irish peer and cricketer. He appeared in at least twenty-seven first-class cricket matches between 1789 and 1796. Together with his brother, the Honorable Edward Bligh, they were referred to as ‘the first Irish first-class cricketers’. In 1791, he married Elizabeth Brownlow, daughter of the Rt Hon William Brownlow of Lurgan, County Armagh, by whom he had seven children – all of whom are listed to the reverse of this pendant. Of the seven children, only four reached adulthood.
