λ A MICRO-MOSAIC KHATAMKARI CABINET
Shiraz, Iran, late 19th - early 20th century
Of rectangular shape, resting on a flat plain wooden base, the exterior clad in bone, coloured woods, and brass-inlaid micro-mosaic work (khatamkari), on each side the central rectangular panel arranged with diamond-shaped cartouches filled with khatamkari hexagonal star-shaped roundels, radiating from the central concentric geometric, fretwork and chequered bands, the interior divided into six small rectangular drawers and a large one, each decorated with star-shaped geometric marquetry work, the brass key lock a later addition, 18.5cm x 21cm x 31cm.
