An early 20th century Iranian (Persian) silver twin handled sugar bowl, Kermanshah circa 1900
Qajar dynasty, of tapering cylindrical form with a chamfered base on a collet foot. Each side with cast and applied European style C scroll handles surmounted by maiden head caryatid thumbpieces, the removable lid surmounted by a stylised bud finial. The body with deep chased monabbat-kari decoration of various vignettes of figures such as Khosrow Parviz on his favourite horse, Shabdiz, Bahram V hunting, a Lamassu before tributaries and the investiture of Khosrow Parviz receiving the ring of office from Ahura Mazda the supreme Zoroastrian god, each separated by lobed arabesques. The lid with Khosrow Parviz on Shadbdiz. The chamfered underside with a continuous deep chased monabbat-kari border of trailing saz leaves and flower heads. Unmarked.
