Song to Ming Dynasty.
The figure carved squatting with legs together and arms clasping a bi disk to the body, the eyes downcast and the mouth with a contented expression the ears carefully delineated from the head, the stone opaque black with hints of opaque white, fitted wood stand, 7.6cm H. (2)
Provenance: an important South African private collection, acquired between the 1960s and 1980s, thence by descent to the present owner.
