Iran, mid to late 20th century

Opaque pigments, ink and pencil on paper and on cotton cloth, comprising a small horizontal composition of a young hunter on a black steed catching with a string two wild ibexes, the hunter wearing typical high boots and gold-embroidered loose robes in line with Safavid fashion, set within a light blue border with white floral trellis, mounted, glazed and framed, 34cm x 39cm including the frame; and a large Safavid-revival garden scene painted on cloth, the horizontal composition featuring a group of men in conversation in a pavilion surrounded by lush blossoming nature and further characters, except for the two male figures in the foreground, possibly servants, all the other men in the scene depicted wearing the typical Safavid white turban with the red taj (baton) in the centre, the scene set within black and red rules, and gold-sprinkled cream borders imitating illustrated manuscript folios, mounted on board, 83cm x 105.5cm.
