Tulk (Charles Augustus), patron to William Blake and John Flaxman, and founder member of the Swedenborg Society
An album compiled by Caroline Tulk, containing:
Six miniatures attributed to Samuel Prout OWS: Doge’s Palace from St. George’s Church across the Grand Canal – Venice, watercolour, ca. 1830; Bridge of Sighs, Venice, from Rio di Palazzo; and 4 further miniatures attributed to Prout § Three designs attributed to John Flaxman: Days and Theogony of Hesiod, The Evil Race (Plate 15), pen and black ink over graphite and wash; The Odyssey, Penelope’s Dream (Plate 7), graphite; The Odyssey, Ulysses at the Table of Circe (Plate 16), graphite § Drawings by Giuseppi Caputi: pencil sketch of Charles Tulk, and another bust-length sketch thought to be of Flaxman; further portraits of ‘Aunt Caroline’ and ‘Aunt Ellen’ § Four Chinese pith paintings § works in other family hands, including a view of Totteridge Park; velvet binding, boards detached, 4to § with another album, inscribed ‘To Mary Pyke… from Th. Symonds’, containing manuscript poems and epigrams, watercolours including by W. Liddell, morocco, boards detached, 1830s (2)
