Qing Dynasty, 19th Century.

Of rectangular form with scrolling ends, the top incised with a series of circular bosses with a fearsome sabre-toothed beast at one end the reserve with a rectangular hook, boxed, 10cm long. (2)

Provenance: an important South African private collection, acquired between the 1960s and 1980s, thence by descent to the present owner.
