*** Scarce. Cristoforo Marcello (1480-1527) was an Italian theologian, archbishop, and humanist. In 1512 he participated in the Lateran Council V, pronouncing the prayer ‘De officio principis’ in honor of Pope Julius II. Mazzocchi’s production was so copious and varied that he became one of the most prolific printers in Rome in the early 16th century. Not infrequently the works had an official character and were protected by papal privileges. Mazzocchi financed his editions and personally cultivated relations with the Curia, university authorities and scholarly circles.
