A George II unmarked silver snuff box, circa 1730

Of shaped oval form with a hinged lid of two scroll moulded knuckles. The lid inset with a Queen Anne medal of the Peace of Utrecht (issued 1713), engraved to the surround with the motto of the order of the garter honi soit qui mal y pense. Engraved to the reverse with a contemporaneous coat of arms within Baroque foliate mantling surmounted by a helm surmounted by a crest of a double headed eagle displayed, the motto above Confido. Gilt interior.

Length – 8.3 cm / 3.25 inches

Weight – 73 grams / 2.35 ozt

The arms may be for Arnet, Scroggy, or Wilson.
