A FINE EARLY 19TH CENTURY FRENCH EMPIRE BLACK MARBLE AND GILT BRONZE MANTEL CLOCK SIGNED 'FAIZAN A PARIS' modelled as an obelisk surmounted by an urn finial and supported on four reclining gilt bronze lions over a rectangular plinth and four toupie feet, the signed, white enamelled dial with Roman numerals and Arabic quarter hour markers, the twin train movement with silk suspension and outside countwheel striking on a bell, with pendulum, 48cm high The movement is winding, ticking and striking but not fully tested or guaranteed. A similar Empire obelisk clock is illustrated in E. Niehuser 'French Bronze Clocks'  p. 249s Faizan is listed in G.H. Baillie as active circa 1812.
