An early 19th century Indian colonial silver small mug, Madras, circa 1814 by Robert Gordon II (active 1802-1818)

of tapering cylindrical with a reeded foot and moulded rim, an acanthus capped double C scroll handle. Marked underneath with RG and a cameo numeral 4, also scratched with a W.

Height – 9.5 cm / 3.75 inches

Weight – 197 grams / 6.33 ozt

The numeral marks associated with the wares of Robert Gordon are illustrated in Wilkinson W., The Makers of Indian Colonial Silver, (1987), London: W.R.T. Wilkinson., p. 74 where numeral 5 and 7 are suggested as corresponding 1815 and 17 respectively.
