A late 19th century Burmese unmarked silver bowl, Rangoon circa 1890

Of rounded circular form with a fold over rim. The body with embossed vignettes of figures from the Ramayana; Ravana commanding Maricha to transform into a golden dear to trick Rama in the forest, Sita with Lakshmana asking Rama to catch the Golden dear for her, Rama slaying Maricha as the golden dear as he shouts "Oh Sita! Oh Lakshmana!", luring Lakshmana away this allows Ravana to appear to Sita alone as a mendicant (Sadhu), in search of alms, where Ravana then captures her. All within scroll work architraves interspersed with foliate scrolls. The convex upper band with chased decoration of trailing foliage, the underside with a band of stylised acanthus leaves.
