A large mid-20^th century Iranian (Persian) 840 standard silver samovar set, Isfahan circa 1960 mark of Bagher Parvaresh (c.1910-1978, master 1928)

Pahlavi dynasty. Comprising a hot water urn with teapot, drip bowl all upon a shaped stand. The urn of fluted form upon a square form base raised upon four bracket paw feet. Wooden twin handles below a cavetto section leading to the teapot support with pierced decoration. The teapot of vase form with a hinged domed lid surmounted by a panelled finial, the handled lacking insulators. The tap with an open work cast spigot topped with a wooden insulator. The drip bowl of doubly rounded circular form with a wavy beaded edge. The urn with finely chased monabbat-kari and engraved ghalam zani decoration of dancing woman in traditional Gilan dress, holding long neck bottles or musical instruments, other wise with arabesque vignettes interspaced by peonies and foliage. The teapot with shaped vignettes of seated musicians, reserved the same. The bowl decorated similarly. The stand of shaped form with a large circular section, the field finely decorated with a chased monabbat-kari and engraved ghalam zani hunting scene of Bahram V, depicting figures on horseback pursuing lions, with dogs hunting rabbits below. The smaller section with shaped vignettes of musicians, the principle showing a man playing the lute sad on a carpet with a long-necked bottle beside him, all reserved with arabesques and dense foliage. Each marked with workshop mark, standard mark (84).

Bagher Parvaresh, master 1928, worked at West Char Bagh Street then in 1937 moved to a larger workshop and storefront on East Char Bagh, working there until his death in 1978. He founded Ishfahan’s Goldsmiths and Silversmith Guild in 1954 and is the patriarch on the famous Parvaresh line of silversmiths. Reza Parvaresh, older son of Mohammad Bagher Parvaresh and Husain Parvaresh is his youngest son.
