A late 18th century Louis XVI French gold mounted Vernis Martin kinetic snuff box, Rennes 1781-89
Of cylindrical form with a pull off lid. The lid centre with a glazed painted ivory miniature of a lady and boy wearing black hats, both looking at a roulette wheel with a spinning arrow. The ladies hand operated by a side catch allowing the arrow to spin. Otherwise with painted lacquer of trailing leaves with red berries. The exterior with gold mounts, the lid mounts with chased edges. Tortoiseshell lined interior. Marked near catch area.
