A 19TH CENTURY PERSIAN QAJAR DIWAN OF MANOUCHEHRI DAMGHANI

The Diwan Of Manouchehri Damghani (1031-1040) Qajar Persia, 19th Century

Persian poetic manuscript on paper, xxff., each folio with 14ll. of black shikasteh nasta’liq script, the opening folio with fine gold and opaque polychrome watercolour illumination, the opening bifolio margins with scrolling foliage in gold and black, the dividing column separating hemistiches in polychrome folioage, subsequent folios with gold dividing columns, within gold, red, and blue rules, catchwords, marginal notes in red, some within the text cartouche upside-down, in fine lacquer binding, the interior of symmetrically arranged gold floral scrolls against red, within a narrow margin of gold on black, the exterior of an elegant polychrome floral bouquet shaded in the European style on black ground, within a border of traditional floral and scrolling motifs, the spine of black calf, the folio 21.5cm x 14cm., the text panel 15cm x 7.5cm.
