Qing Dynasty.

The cylindrical body finely carved with a continuous pattern of fishermen and workers among a watery landscape set with pavilions and dispersed among trees, the tips mounted with ivory, the interior containing another cylinder carved with a seamstress working on a large loom, embellished with ivory ends and held in place by a cord, 11.6cm long.

Provenance: a gift of Colonel and Mrs Davis to the present owner.
