Ming Dynasty, 16th / 17th Century.
With a circular top resting on a recessed waist, rectangular panels pierced with quatrefoil apertures and a shaped apron with scalloped edges, all resting on four S-shaped cabriole legs connected to a circular base, the top inlaid with figures before fenced pavilions beneath a large pine tree, the legs and the sides decorated with birds and floral sprays against a dense diaper ground, the top of the base with three playful lion dogs surrounding a huge brocade ball, the edges with chain bands, flower heads and feathery foliage sprays, contained in a Japanese paulownia wood box, 38cm diameter, 48.5cm H.
