STEPHEN CATTERSON SMITH (BRITISH 1806-1872)

Smith was born in England but made his name in Ireland. Before travelling to Dublin in 1839 he made sketches of members of the Royal family. In Ireland he painted many distinguished families. He was president of the Royal Hibernian Academy and director of the National Gallery of Ireland from 1868.
