ALAMEIN, Field Marshal Montgomery (1887-1976). ALS. Dated 20-3-45.  ‘Dear Mrs Bernard Thank you for your kind letter of 12 March. I am very interested to hear that you knew my father. Possibly we may meet some day: when this business is all over. Yrs. Sincerely B.L. Montgomery Field-Marshall. With an ALS from Bishop Montgomery (Montgomery of Alamein’s father)   Sir Alexander Harris on the death of his son Stanley Shute Harris, the England footballer & Headmaster of St. Ronan’s, 1926:  "Dear Harris, I have just seen Saturday’s Times. From what you told me I felt that we must prepare for his passing. What a beautiful article it is. There is a thrill of emotion in the words. 'The rose that climbs the garden wall hath blossomed on the other side'.  Many a time have I prayed that he might be spared to you. But no. My warmest messages, please, to your wife, to your family, to yourself. Yours…. ….Montgomery (Bp)''. ‘Bishop Montgomery’ (inscribed in another hand to foot of page). With ALS from Montgomery of Alamein’s mother to Sir Alexander’s daughter, Mrs Bernard. 1943. With a copy of the book: ‘Ten Chapters 1942 to 1945’ (London, 1945).  SIGNED by Montgomery of Alamein on the front endpaper. (4)
