An early 20th century Iranian (Persian) unmarked silver covered twin handled sugar bowl, Kermanshah circa 1920
Qajar dynasty. Of tapering cylindrical form upon a spreading circular trumpet foot. The domed pull off lid surmounted by a cast foliate finial. The wrought twin handled formed as C scrolls with ribbed knops. The body with deep chased monabbat-kari decoration of Achaemenid revival scenes such as a seated king Darius with his fan bear behind receiving tributaries to one side and a seated King Khosrow II with emissaries either side to the obverse. The underside of bowl and foot with figural scenes including a lamassu, the foot terminating with a border of trailing rosettes and saz leaves. The lid embossed with King Ashurbanipal before captured Elamite chiefs after the Battle of Ulai.
