A CARNELIAN PENDANT
Qajar Iran, 19th century

The frameless pendant of ovoid form tapering to a point, shouldered, with drilled cord channel to the top, engraved in concentric registers with Quranic verses in Arabic in thuluth script, 5.2cm x 7.4cm x 0.7cm.

The protective talisman breaking verses include the 'chahar ghol', the four beginnings with the imperatives: Kafirun, Ikhlas, Falaq, and Naas.
