Lewis Carroll [Charles Lutwidge Dodgson] (1832-1898)

PORTRAIT OF HENRY HOLIDAY'S (1839-1927) WIFE CATHERINE, & DAUGHTER WINNIFRED, c.1870. Albumen print, image size, 148 x 100mm, on contemporary cabinet card support, numbered in purple ink lower margin recto, and dedicated, also in purple ink "For Winnie" verso by the photographer.

Henry Holiday was employed by Lewis Carroll to illustrate "The Hunting of the Snark"

Carroll is thought to have spent time in Holiday's Hampstead home in July 1870 when this photograph was most likely taken.
