A CHINESE CIZHOU BOWL.

Song Dynasty.

With a rounded body rising from a tall straight foot to a wide rim, decorated to the underside with a thick black glaze with russet inclusions, the centre coated with a cream glaze and carved with a large peony flowerhead, with meaty foliate scrolls incised to the rim, contained within an inscribed Japanese paulownia box, 12.5cm H, 32cm diameter. (3)

Provenance: a Japanese private collection, appraised by Okada Yuzuru [inscription on the box].
