Henri Lebasque was born in Western France in 1865 and went on to become a respected post-impressionist painter. The artist began his education at the École régionale des beaux-arts d'Angers, before moving to Paris in 1886. In Paris, he studied under Léon Bonnat and immersed himself in the art scene, meeting figures such as Pierre Bonnard and Édouard Vuillard. In 1903 Lebasque became a founding member of the Salon d’Automne, an exhibition held yearly in Paris. The present example showcases the artist's ability to work with a vibrant palette.
