A Pre-Columbian Mayan style pottery censer

A Pre-Columbian Mayan style pottery censer, decorated in shades of red, black and orange over a tan earthenware body, the bowl with a band of abstract glyphs and masks around a central scene of a figure in a headdress, the bowl is supported on three jaguar mask feet, 22cm in diameter

Mayan censers from the Late Classic Period (circa 550-850 AD) often feature jaguar imagery. Maya feline imagery may be associated with the Jaguar God of the Underworld, sometimes identified as the ‘night-sun” or a lunar god.
