A collection of letters by British actors and theatre managers from late 19th-early 20th century, comprising: Henry Kemble ("I was told by Pinero he and one or two friends wished to give me a little informal supper tomorrow night to wish me god speed and I am sorry you can't be there", two pages, 10 Upper Spring Street, Baker Street, 10 February 1900); John Hare (thanking Henry Gumer for his kind thoughts, one page, 75 Upper Berkeley Street, 16 November 1907); Alfred Sutro (note saying "very niece of you not to mind- where is the box for next Wednesday", one page, Redlands, Witley, 11 October 1911); Johnston Forbes-Robertson ("I am very much touched and delighted at your kind letter. That you should have suggested my name to the committee makes me very proud. I need hardly say your book was my ground work for my effort", two pages, 27 April 1905); William Hunter Kendal (sending two tickets to see 'Good Fortune', two pages, 145 Harley Street, 5 January 1881); Charles Wyndham (letter declining to accept a play for production, one page, Birmingham, 2 November 1892); W.C. Macready (letter to Mrs Macklin reading "I am much obliged to you for your kind trouble and if you wish be good enough to keep the box and the book for me, until I can request someone coming or sedning down here, to take charge of it, I shall be still more obliged", two pages, Sherbone, Dorset, 19 August 1851); Robert Speaight (accepting to give an opening lecture on the 'Art of the Theatre', one page, University of Notre-Dame, 27 June 1939; Ellaine Terriss (thank you note, Vaudeville Theatre, Glasgow, n.d.) and Ashley Duke (typed letter to Professor W. Stewart, reading in part "I am sending the librarian, under another cover, a copy of 'the Scene is Changed' which was a theatre book published by Macmillan during the war", one page, Mercury Theatre, 2 Ladbroke Road, London, 13 October 1948 (11)
