A LARGE BANSHAN PAINTED POTTERY VESSEL Gansu province, Circa 3rd Century B.C. Of impressive proportions, the vessel with a rounded shoulder which tapers sharply to a flat base, with a short cylindrical neck, flaring to a slightly everted lip, the vessel is decorated in umber slip in the form of globules of crosshatched design alternating with a leaf-shaped pattern, 40cm high.
