PROPERTY FROM AN IMPORTANT EUROPEAN PRIVATE COLLECTION
Possibly Samarkand or Bukhara, Central Asia, late 18th - 19th century

Of deep rounded shape, resting on a short splayed foot, with a thin circular rim, the exterior engraved with three registers of dense calligraphy, two of them against a hatched ground with the names of the Twelve Shi'a Imams, auspicious prayers and Qur'anic verses, the calligraphic roundels featured within lobed arches and cusped arabesque tails filled with interlocking split palmette trellis, further fretwork and vegetal bands decorating the foot and the register below the rim, the centre with old inventory stickers from Yacob's Gallery, no. 1394 B, 19cm diam. and 9.5cm high.
